It’s Time to Streamline Your Hiring Process

Have you reviewed your hiring process recently? Does your company have a defined hiring process?

Hiring a new employee can be one of the most bloated and time-consuming parts of your job. And at the end of the day, how can you even be sure that you’ve hired the right person? Let’s face it: hiring is stressful.

Hiring can be simpler, and more effective.

You can take the steps necessary to simplify your hiring process, and drive better results. By following these four steps, you’ll be well on your way:

  1. Consolidate your job advertisements. Maximize the efficiency and coverage of your job postings by targeted a balance of national, local, and niche job boards. If you can subscribe to a service that automatically sends your job postings to these sites, even better. You can reduce your time and reach the most high-quality candidates by tightening up your advertising efforts.
  2. Eliminate unnecessary rounds of interviews. Interviewing can be an incredible time-waster for any organization. Make the most of the time you have with a candidate by scheduling a block (with a maximum of 2 hours) of interview time. Then, have all the required personnel schedule their time within the block. You’ll avoid having to bring the candidate back in and schedule additional interviews, saving time in the hiring process, as well as your own valuable time. Being able to bring in a team for interviews does require another step:
  3. Complete testing and assessment before you interview. Make sure you are properly eliminating unqualified candidates by conducting phone screens and testing before you bring in a candidate to interview. Interviewing is arguably the most time-consuming part of the hiring process. Why add to that time by bringing in candidates who aren’t suitable for the job from the get-go? Skills tests can be emailed to candidates, and screening questions can be completed over the phone. These steps can save you time and money down the line.
  4. Partner with a staffing agency. When you work with a staffing agency, their team will get to know the ins and outs of your business. They’ll understand the skills and personality necessary to thrive in your organization. Then, they’ll go through the steps required to find and present to you a recommended candidate. Or, if you prefer, they can provide the top two or three candidates, so that your team can make the final decision. When you work with a staffing agency, you’re gaining a strategic partner, one who can help ease the burden of hiring while lowering your costs.
